#Ecocity 30-Day Zero Waste Challenge: 2nd Half Kick-off

Written by Staff

It’s halftime for the Ecocity 30-Day Zero Waste Challenge and what better way to mark the occasion than with a challenge that is near and dear to the ECOCITY cause: Walk, bike, or take public transit.

If you haven’t already, today is as fun and easy as any to get in on the action: Hop on a bus, a bike, or a sidewalk, take a snapshot of anything noteworthy about your excursion, and share it on Instagram (#EcocityGoingZero), on Facebook (tag us @EcocityBuilders), or email to sven@ecocitybuilders.org.
The next few days should also be really interesting as we’ll be delving into fundamental arenas of our human existence that are also key elements of the urban metabolism and circular economy: water and food.

As the first half of the challenge comes to a close, we’d like to acknowledge all of you who’ve posted and given feedback, both on- and offline. To demonstrate that you don’t have to be on social media to make your actions count (though we do encourage you to do so!), we’d like to share this photo taken by our challenge co-creator Debra Baidawhose conversation about #EcocityGoingZero with her friend’s college-bound daughter led to the beginnings of a blueprint for an “eco-dorm.”

So if you haven’t already, jump on in and give it a shot. It’s nourishing, full of surprises, and not too late to join in. For some more food for thought, check out samples of some of the most recent postings below.

See you all out there in the zero waste, or rather, optimal flow space!

kirstin_leigh_miller: #ecocitygoingzeroDay 13. Declutter. This is going to take more than a day. Today I started small with top doo-dads drawer. I found lost earring, five dollars and a whole bar of Austrian chocolate – best challenge yet! #zerowastechallenge #zerowasteliving
debrabaida: Decluttering often yields surprising benefits
kchannel9: Great post ??✌

elysebuckley: Trying to make a #wastefree snack to bring to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. ?
Made my own popcorn, but what to put it in?? I swapped out my pasta (put it in a separate container in my kitchen) for popcorn! ♻ #reuse #reducereuserecycle #recycle#zerowaste #plasticfreejuly #ecocitygoingzero #hippiesnack #sparednoexpense?
poeticjusticebooks: PennePopcorn, yum

@debrabaidaDay 12 of the Ecocity 30-Day Zero Waste Challenge is to clean up your cleaning. Instead of cleaning today (it’s a work day, silly) I’m anticipating the maiden voyages of our new brushes next time there’s scrubbing to be done in the bathroom…
